The Hobbit

Thorinscan

I’m a complete dork, nerd, fangirl. . . etc. I received Thorin’s Key as a gift from a friend and decided to use it, a ring, and Thorin’s map from The Hobbit to do a photo shoot. This is a scan from it and I believe it may be upside down, but I like the perspective of it. I also like the shadow falling behind the ring and the key, it adds more to it.

Kitty Keptin Kirk

Keptin Kirk

Practice for portfolio. The little black fuzzball is my Keptin Kirk (bonus points if you read it in Chekov’s accent), she’s a mouthy, always hungry, lazy kitten. This was about three in the morning one night. She had finally settled down and I was watching her get comfy and I thought why not. She liked to open her eyes and move slightly between each shot. Her sister, Bones, was hanging out just outside the frame. She always moves to where Kirk’s going to be the only one in the spotlight.

Bombur

Bombur

Another portfolio practice. Yes, her name is Bombur. She’s the oldest out of the litter of four. She likes posing and just laying around in general. I wanted her to look at the camera while she was just laying on top of the car and I’m pretty happy with the result. I just wish that they were more sympathetic to me and would stay still longer. She’s had a litter of her own that I’m hoping to photograph for my final portfolio.

Nom

Nom

This is just practice for my portfolio. I want to do a theme of animals, probably cats mostly and a few dogs. His name is Nom. He’s the youngest out of a litter of four kittens. He’s affectionate and loves to nibble on you if he can smell food. I love how he’s so inquisitive about the camera. It’s hard working with him though, he loves to constantly be on the move, and you’ll only find him still if he’s sleeping.

Fabric 2.0

fabric2

This is another one of my rejects for the fabric assignment. I had placed it in a white wicker basket and lit it opposite of where I was standing. It still blew out the white and was a hard, harsh light. To me, I like the blurred out portions at the front of the image that’s in shadow on the right, if you’re looking at it. The in focus area needed to be lit more to bring it out more.

Fabric

For Product Lighting, we were given fabric as an assignment. This is one of my rejects, but I still like it for the fact that it ties in really well with the pitcher. I hate that it kind of blew out on the white part in the middle of it, but it still gives it a nice texture and detail in the ruffle and lace part. The lighting was a bit harder than I expected, but it’s interesting to me how half the handle is in the shadows and that the fabric pushed into the pitcher is still discernable from everything else.

Sunset

I took this one yesterday on my way home. I really like the colors and the slight feathering they have as they blend between the two. It’s a rose pink and slight dark lavender sky. I ran back up the drive till I could get the best shot. I had my cats following me the entire time I was running up and down the drive to get this. My neighbors probably think I’m crazy now.

Again with the dog

So, here’s Precious again. We were over at a friend’s house and I got bored so I took out my camera. Precious was angling to get at the kittens and she was just so still and posed so, I illuminated her with my electronic flash, while taking the picture. She was curious and looking around for the light source after it fired. My mother didn’t like it since I blinded her to get it. I really like the catch light in her eyes.

Concentration or Concern?

concern

Mallory and I were taking a lunch break and I always found it so hysterical how she gets this concerned look on her face when she’s watching the news, so I took a surprise shot. I really like the window light hitting her from the back and the highlighting the left side of her face. It gives her a nice rembrandt light pattern. She immediately got onto me of course. She hates when I take snapshots of her without her knowing. Or whenever I pop up behind her unexpectedly.

Precious

This was taken on a lazy afternoon where nobody wanted to do a thing in my family. Her name’s Precious and she completely loves my grandfather to death. The only problem is that his dog, Sunshine, doesn’t like her very much when she’s in his lap. It’s such a cute thing, when they’re sleeping, they’re not barking or driving you mad with the need to chase cats. It’s a bit fuzzy, I don’t have steady hands, they always shake just a little.
